The ISO (Insurance Services Organization) is a group that rates fire departments. This rating is used by insurance carriers to determine premium rates for fire hazard insurance.
SCBC had been rated a 7/9 for a number of years. The 7 is for any structure that is within 5 driving miles of a class A engine (pumper) and is within 1,500 feet of a fire hydrant.
In working with ISO, improving our equipment and training, and working with Missouri American Water on hydrant placement, SCBC achieved a 6/6y lowered ISO rating for the majority of SCBC’s district in November of 2016.
The complete rating is below.
– 6 = within 5 driving miles of a class A pumper and 1,500 feet of a fire hydrant
– 6y = within 5 driving hiles of a class A pumper and not within 1,500 feet of a fire hydrant
– 10 = not within 5 driving miles of a class A pumper and not within 1,500 feet of a fire hydrant
– 10w = not within 5 driving miles and within 1,500 feet of a fire hydrant
Note: SCBC’s class A engines (pumpers) are located at Station #1 (Agency) and Station #2 (Faucett). To calculate your distance from each station, please see http://scbcfd.org/contact-us/.
